SHAYNE WARD is keeping his head down after returning to the wild gun slingin’ North West he calls home. The 2005 X Factor winner is staying in a Manchester hotel for the homecoming nights of his UK tour — after his family sparked gang warfare across the city. Armed police were called to patrol Langley, the lair of Shayne’s notorious family, after a clash between the Wards and their bitter rivals. A member of Shayne’s family stormed a kiddies’ boxing match and fired shots at a member of the other gang — missing him from ten feet away. The shots were allegedly in retribution for burning down the aptly-named Welcome Inn in Langley where security was provided by the Ward family business. Now police have called in armed reinforcements to patrol the town and quell the violence. A source said: “Shayne needs to concentrate on his tour so he thought he should stay in a hotel instead of going home — though he doesn’t have much to do with the family on his dad Martin’s side. “Staying out of the crossfire is the most sensible thing for him.” Det Insp Daryl Chadwick said: “We have put extra police officers out to patrol the streets with the power to stop and search those believed to be carrying weapons.” As the saying goes, you can pick your friends but you can’t pick your family.
